So the prayer plan verses for today are both from Psalms. Psalm 5:1-3 and Psalm 102:16-17.

Psalm 5:1-3

English Standard Version (ESV)

Lead Me in Your Righteousness

To the choirmaster: for the flutes. A Psalm of David.

5 Give ear to my words, O Lord;
consider my groaning.
Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for to you do I pray.
O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.

Psalm 102:16-17

English Standard Version (ESV)

16 For the Lord builds up Zion;
he appears in his glory;
17 he regards the prayer of the destitute
and does not despise their prayer.

Psalm 5 is such an urgent cry out to God. I’m told it is normal to begin a prayer with a call to God but this is more of a cry out. In Psalm 102 we learn that God is interested in restoring Zion (our world) to bring Him glory. We rest in this hope that it will one day happen and we are the beginning of that restoration as believers in Him. Yet bringing restoration is hard and most of the time sin creeps in and ruins good efforts.

With today being two Psalms, which are like songs or hymns. I thought I would post a song that I think echoes some of the cries we see here in the verses. Now I don’t usually promote Carrie Underwood but this song, I think, is really good and way deeper then slashing an ex boyfriend’s tires. And no, the song is not “Jesus Take The Wheel”!

It’s called Praying For Time. And in my opinion it’s a great song that has a lot of passion and urgency, kind of like the verses in Psalm. Here are the lyrics:

“Praying For Time”

[originally performed by George Michael]These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around nowThese are the days of the beggars and the choosers
This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance and legitimate excusesThe rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much but we’ll take our chances
‘Cause God stopped keeping score

I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us all out to play
And turned his back
And all God’s children
Crept out the back door
And its hard to love
Theres so much to hate
Hanging onto hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above
Say its much too late
Oh maybe we should all be praying for time

This is the year of the empty hand
Oh you hold onto what you can
And charity is a coat you wear twice a year

These are the days of the guilty man
The television takes a stand
And you find that what was over there
Is over here
So you scream from behind your door
Say whats mine is mine and not yours
I may have too much
But I’ll take my chances cause God stopped keeping score
And you’ll cling to the things they sold you
Did you cover your eyes when they told you
That he cant come back
‘Cause he has no children
to come back for

And its hard to love when theres so much to hate
And hanging onto hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above
Say its much, much too late
Mm, well maybe we should all be praying for time
